PRNewswire: D'Souza's "America" Soars With 60% Fourth Of July Spike And #9 Per Screen Average In Solid $4 Million Debut

Follow Up to 2016 Surprises Observers with A+ CinemaScore

America, the new docudrama from New York Times bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza and Academy-award winning producer Gerald R. Molen (Schindler’s List) once again surprised Hollywood with a 60% increase in box office on the 4th of July, making it the #9 movie in America on a per screen basis. The film took in an estimated $4 million over the five-day holiday weekend.

Overall, America placed 11th and met the expectations of experts by starting slow and building its audience, a move noticed by talk radio king Rush Limbaugh who noted “if its predecessor is any guide, the movie will start in a few theaters, it’ll grow, and then word-of-mouth is going to build it and build it. It’ll end up being huge in any number of theaters all over the country.”

Another surprise came in the form of a report from CinemaScore, the industry tracking service that grades viewer attitudes about movies they’ve just seen. America scored an unusual A+ with a 97 rating from filmgoers joining an elite group of 52 films which have included “Titanic,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” and “The King’s Speech.” The score contrasted sharply with unprecedented attacks on the film from critics including one review which labeled America the worst film in history and another which called for a boycott of the film.

“Thank you America,” said D’Souza. “We knew you would come through in support of our film and we’re delighted, humbled and honored by your reaction.”

“In our film we talk about the shaming of America and how progressive elites attempt to silence the average American,” noted producer Molen whose credits also include Jurassic Park and Minority Report. “True to form, some critics have attacked the film in ways that I’ve never seen before and yet actual filmgoers have given it the highest rating of any film this year. The people have spoken and we’re thrilled with their support and look forward to America‘s continued rollout.”

Full house, sat in the last 2 seats left in the theatre. Received applause at the end and a lot of people feeling like this country might have a chance to survive after ‘O’ is done trying to destroy it.

Great movie which taught me some things I never knew. I hope people in our country wake up and realize America is on the wrong track. Thank you Mr DSouza.

I am waiting eagerly for it to be released in Sweden or a video streaming service. I might see it for free but I’ll promos to buy it when it released for legal use. Listening to the audiobook as we speak. Love you Dinesh.

    Best Regards
    Sam from Stockholm, Sweden

I agree. It brought tears to my eyes at certain points in the film. To think that an immigrant (Dsouza) is the one to remind us just how great our “land of the free” really is. Please go see it and then take people you love to see it and talk about it with anyone who has half a brain until the Liberals go apeshit over the positive response to this little documentary. It should be required viewing in every American History class that pushes the Howard Zinn version of history.

Wonderful!!! Super Informative!!! You must see this film with your friends & family. I took my two children (ages 18 & 13), we really enjoyed the record being set straight about American history in such a factual, fair and open way. Dinesh freely gave the most radical critics of our country a voice in this movie via direct interviews. He then proceeded to contrast and layout historical facts & arguments to counteract their ideology and view of America. Further, Dinesh did not at all gloss over very real & painful events in American history, but addressed them in an open, respectful and truthful way. At the end, we all clapped together and many (including me) left with tear filled eyes. My 13 year old son and 18 year old daughter thanked me for bringing them, we had many good family discussions post movie.

is there going to be a dvd. I would like to start a grass roots movement with permission from the movie owners to show this in our schools and universities. also in our churches and out door venues in the summer prior to the elections to spead the information and get the people ready to vote correctly this time.

Wonderfully done and enlightening! I’ve always been proud of my country, but am now even moreso. Every American should see this movie regardless of political persuasion! Thank you to Dinesh D’Souza, Gerald Molen, and every single person involved with the making of this movie!

Thank you Mr. D’Souza and Mr. Molen for making this wonderful documentary. I emigrated from Communist Hungary in 1971 with my parents and am now a proud American citizen. I believe it is those of us who have seen a different kind of life in countries without freedom, who can truly understand the greatness of this nation.

I echo the sentiment that your movie should be required viewing for all school children in this country. We went to see the movie with our college student daughter who knew that what she has been taught in the schools is not true, but the movie lays everything out so clearly and beautifully.

Thank you for your bravery in taking on the Progressive Left of this country and their lies. You are in our Prayers!

    God Bless you!

We just returned from seeing this movie. As an American history teacher who has lived in China and Qatar, traveled to most middle eastern nations, Africa, etc., I stood in the lobby recommending this to every high school student I could find. It genuinely identifies the difference between this great nation and plunder and take nations. I am going to buy a truckload of America when released as a DVD and pass them out! Thank you so much Dinesh – this country needs you at this time!
