Townhall: D'Souza Announces Tour to Bring "America" to College Campuses

Originally posted at Townhall.

Dinesh D’Souza, the conservative author and filmmaker that some have deemed the “Michael Moore of the right,” is launching a college tour this fall to introduce and discuss with students his new documentary, America. The film challenges the notion that America is a “predatory colonial power” that relied on thievery and exploitation to earn its prominent place in the world.

The tour is being sponsored by the Young America’s Foundation. From the organization’s press release:

Following the release of his breakthrough documentary, America, which has surpassed Michael Moore’s “Capitalism” at the box office, Dinesh D’Souza will be taking the message of his film directly to college students. As showcased in the film, America’s greatness is under attack by those who argue that our country’s founding was based on the theft of America’s natural resources and the exploitation of Native Americans and others around the world. Many of these attacks originate on college campuses and Dinesh will bring the message of the film to young people who often only hear a one-sided view of our history.

Critics have called D’Souza’s America “controversial” and merely an attack on Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States: 1942 to Present. Well, if that is D’Souza’s intention, I think that’s a reasonable enough motive in itself. Zinn’s “history” book is chock full of criticisms of America and her rise to wealth, claiming the country did little more than trample on minorities in its rise to power. D’Souza is determined to try and reverse these liberal lessons often taught in today’s classrooms:

“America’s campuses are where the left is free to push its destructive ideas on young people. I am excited to work with my friends at Young America’s Foundation to ensure students receive a balanced education.”

D’Souza’s first confirmed stop on his college tour is the University of California, Santa Barbara this October. YAF is speaking with a number of other universities as well. With all of the misinformation currently being divulged in schools, America would be a refreshing alternative. It’s time for students to hear the positive – not just the negative – details about America’s past. Here is the documentary trailer, which students all over the country will soon be able to watch:

I was distressed to learn that at Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville,TN, a book by a known Muslim Brotherhood operative has been choicen by the University president as required reading for all students except honor students. This is a respected university in the middle of the Bible Belt and my alma mater. Check it out for yourself on the university’s website /common book.

Saw the movie and have grandchildren in college. The college age children are being bombarded and brain washed every day in colleges around the country, high schools no longer teach civics, as well as american history. A grand daughter graduated with honors from her high school and had no idea where the money comes from to pay teachers, government employees or other non producing professions. It’s imperative that we somehow open their minds to be wary of the left, bleeding heart liberals, the likes of Al Sharpton, Harry Reid, the EPA, Union Money in politics and our Muslim loving empty suit president. Government at all levels, local, state, federal no longer care about the peoples will and rights..

    Dear Mr. D’Souza
I would like for you to consider Florida International University. The largest university in South Florida, home to 50,000 and it’s teetering around in the middle politically. However, the Democratic Party Club has pretty much begun to overrun everything and silence the GOP club – they seriously need help and someone that most of the diverse range of students can relate to; Hispanic, White, Black, Indian, Chinese, etc. all here. The minds here can be awakened and pave a new future!

People who don’t want to work will steal. And they justify it by saying, “It was done to us.” No. You do NOT enrich yourself by stealing from your neighbor, whether it’s his TV, his money or through taxation. You can only expand economic opportunity when you are willing to work. This mindset that is pushed through the school system, in our colleges is that nobody worked and everybody stole something from somebody else. Well, we see where that gets you: the Bolsheviks did that in 1917 and the Communists continued that tradition. And what everyone has is NOTHING. It is an economic drought that is created through envy.

I, am very much concerned about the distorted weltenschauung of Mr Dsouza. He presents a picture of history (for example that of our Native Americans) and proudly announces that all other pictures different from his are wrong and evil. Evidence or even a little bit of data seems to be a foreign language to Dinesh. So I am very pleased that he has announced his association with Young America’s Foundation. Of course, I promptly read the published history of the Foundation and Lo and behold, there embedded we find just about every cleverly disguised historical and unsubstantiated untruth repeated by our new movie producer. My first question is “Who finances the rubbish of the Young America’s Foundation?” Lord, if they receive any financing from the Federal Government, it must stop immediately. I will investigate that right away.

I find it amusing that Dinesh is still traumatized by the PORT HURON STATEMENT which was written by the Students for a Democratic Society. I bet if I whisper the word “HIPPY”, Dinesh will pee his pants.

I look forward to the appearance of Mr. D’Souza and his Foundation disciples at UC Santa Barbara. The students there are very adept at critical thinking and I feel certain that they will embarrass Dinesh by asking for just a little documentation for his outrageous statements. But then he has the Reagan Ranch Hands right there to help him out.
