Through D'Souza's trademark incisiveness, wit, and originality, United States of Socialism reveals how the Left uses the Venezuelan formula for socialism, decisively refutes this new face of socialism, chillingly documents the full range of the Left’s gangster tendencies, and provocatively exposes the tactics of the socialist Left.

Dear Sir, I purchased and have shared viewing of each of your great “movies” with friends and family. I do have concern about a segment of the “America The Movie”. It concerns the history of the South, the Federal Government of the time, and Slavery. There are reasons for the term “War of Northern Aggression”. The war was formed over the plan for the government to increase taxes (on the South but not the North) since the South was so productive. Slavery only became an issue when national and Union support waned. Lincoln himself (as noted on the lower left room of the Lincoln Memorial) stated he wanted to preserve the Union, slavery or not. An email does not allow even a small genre to show facts vs “winner history”. This I would say, many scholars agree that the forced slave issue was fading in the South and very likely would have gone away in a generation. Just imagine if the “government” had stayed out and natural acceptance allowed to take place, much like other ethnic or races accomplished in this nation… There would be no reason for the slavery issues of today.

First of all, I would disagree with the first questioner’s premise that “Christ’s main emphasis was on giving to the poor”. Anyone who knows Christ’s teaching knows that the “main” emphasis of Jesus’ teachings is “repentance” and “saving faith towards God”. Even Jesus said, “the poor you will always have with you”. Even though He healed people in order to display proof of His Messiah-ship, His main emphasis was always an eternal perspective and the atonement for human sin.

    I fully agree Dinesh.

In order to silence the whiners… the question was specifically stated IN THE CONTEXT OF BIBLICAL TEACHING.

“Charity” that is extracted unwillingly, at the point of a gun is robbery, is not charity, and will not be considered by God as an act of righteousness to be credited to the victim of legalized theft.

Biblical history has replete with numerous examples of God’s provision. God will place people in difficult circumstances for the purpose of strengthening and developing faith.

George Muller, Smith Wigglesworth, Mother Teresa, and Roland and Heidi Baker (IRIS Ministries) are a few powerful examples of people who would be considered “poor” yet who did incredible things to help the poor through a faith that was made strong through their “poverty”.

    Hebrews 12:7-11
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Government programs like welfare thwart God’s perfect plan.

    2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NIV)
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

    1 Timothy 5:5
Now she who is a widow indeed and who has been left alone, has fixed her hope on God and continues in entreaties and prayers night and day.

The welfare recipient is deprived of any opportunity to grow in faith and remains a spiritual baby. Welfare recipients do not look to God for their provision, develop faith in God, nor give thanks to God in any way.

I think Dinesh d-Souza is right in AMERICA concerning our Civil War. There’s absolutely NO reason to assume that slavery would just vanish if left alone. Those are foolish dreamers who imagine that in the next generation after the war there would no longer be slaves if the war hadn’t forced the issue.

Having lived for these past 86 years gave me an education of our History and we now have a government leadership that wants to change all that and make it appear Americans have been bad people and so we need to repent and share the wealth. That’s a lot of BS. Americans are givers but we can’t be expected to support those who really don’t want to work and want to live in the poverty provided by the welfare system. We need a leadership that will encourage people, all people, to want to better themselves which can be done by education/training. It’s been the liberal Democrats that have been keeping people on the plantation. For what reason, votes! It is not out of generosity but a need for power. Have you ever noticed that the people pushing the giveaways all live quite well, have nice homes, cars, positions and lots of $ to provide those things; villifying the rich, when they are the rich. That’s supposed to make the rest of us feel good about being poor or lower middle class. There is lots of transparency there, look for it. you will find it. Beat the system, educate yourself, show them they can’t keep you down with their gov’t handouts. Use your smarts, you have them!
