Last fall, Dinesh D’Souza found himself hauled into federal court on charges of campaign finance violations. (He had improperly donated money to a friend who was running for Senate.) Tried, convicted and sentenced to time in a confinement center in San Diego where he spent eight months among hardened criminals — drug dealers, thieves, gang bangers, rapists and murderers — D’Souza’s exposure to the criminal underclass provided an eye-opening education in American realities.
Previously, D’Souza had viewed America through the eyes of an immigrant who came here as a young man and became successful by espousing conservative principles. For years he had written books defending America as a fundamentally just and fair society. Seeing America through the eyes of the criminal underclass challenged this idealized view, which is naively shared by many conservatives.
Now in this controversial and timely new book — a real departure for D’Souza as a writer — he describes his experience in confinement and lays out a very different vision of America than the one we are used to. In the view of hardened criminals, America is anything but fair. Instead it is a jungle in which various gangs face off against each other — with the biggest and most powerful gangs inhabiting the federal government. And especially the Democratic Party.
Applying this new take on American politics, Dinesh D’Souza describes progressive politics as a series of scams and cons aimed at nothing less than stealing the wealth of America. With the 2016 Presidential election well under way—D’Souza provides readers with a sharp new lens with which to examine the motives of the candidates and the government which they wish to run.
