2016 Opens Big in Houston – The Hollywood Reporter

On Thursday, 2016: Obama’s America premièred in Houston, and on Friday the documentary opened to the public at the Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 & Imax. Opening weekend has proved to be an incredible success before the film releases nationwide on July 27.

The Hollywood Reporter said of the film:

An anti-Obama documentary featuring an interview with the president’s half brother opened in a single theater in Texas over the weekend and, despite alleged complaints from some consumers who were upset with the film’s content, it grossed an estimated $31,750, a strong showing for any independent release.

If the weekend estimate from the movie’s distributor, Rocky Mountain Pictures, holds when final numbers are reported Monday, the film will have bested the per-theater number posted by the Al Gore documentary about global warming, An Inconvenient Truth, which opened to $123,549 in four theaters in 2006 for a per-theater average of $30,887.

Michael Berry interviewed Dinesh tonight (17 July) on his radio program and Michael Berry is raising money to put the movie into more theaters. Right now only one theater is showing the film – in Houston.

I saw this movie tonight. It is absolutely fantastic and can’t come closer to the truth. Very well put together and extremely informative in a very NON “attack” approach. A must see for everyone INCLUDING obama backers (it really will not piss off anyone who is affiliated with ANY party) It is simply informative in the least intrusive manner.

When will the movie 2016: …. be in Arizona?

    • John milligan August 17, 2012 at 10:10 pm #

Saw tonight in canton Ohio. It is clear that his vision of America born of his anti-colonial background is not the vision of either political party. Dems and Reps should see it.

    • Pua August 18, 2012 at 2:50 am #

Wish I’d said that, Jeremy! 2016 is soooo very outstanding, because there is NO attack – just information that is incredibly well documented!

      Aloha no, Pua

I just saw this movie yesterday at the Edwards 24 in Houston. I have read all of D’Souza’s recent works, but I found the movie to be even more engaging than anything I’ve read to this point. The amazing visual production really drove home the similarity of cultures. The anti-colonialist message as presented in modern third world countries is rarely present in the United States. Every American will gain insight by watching this great film.

  8. Barb July 26, 2012 at 7:04 pm #

When will the movie be shown in the Atlanta area? Also, what theater/locations will be showing it? Looking forward to it as I have read the book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage”. Thank you for bringing the “truth” out in the open for all to see and hear.

    • Leslie August 12, 2012 at 11:34 pm #

2016 is already in Atlanta at several theaters. Just google to find a theater. Even if it’s not convenient to those of you in other states, I urge everyone, conservative or liberal, to see this movie – take a road trip if necessary. Learn something about this man who is our president, and whose wife said, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.” I’ve always been proud of my country, and I fervently hope we love America enough to elect Romney in November.

When is the movie coming to Florida? I live in Central Florida but will drive to Jacksonville to see it if need be. Can’t find any info about when to expect it here in Florida. Dinesh, I have been a fan of your writing since Illiberal Education. I’m so grateful for having your voice in the world and for having access to your mind through your books, lectures and debates. I’m really looking forward to this movie based upon your book.

I have heard many good things about this film. I would like to thank Michael Berry for helping to raise funds to get this film in more Theaters. I am wondering though if selling this film on DVD would create more income for the film. I know I would personally pay $20-$25 for a DVD version of the film.

Maybe it is possible and maybe it is not but from all of the great things I am hearing, I think the sales would be very good.

    • Carol August 13, 2012 at 5:47 pm #

I’m with you Brad, if it would be possible to purchase this film, I would purchase it also. I have many friends who I would like to see the film.
If this is a way to get it into the theaters, this would be all the better. My friend and I talked about the movie all the way hom trying to remember the information.

  12. J Johnson August 5, 2012 at 3:07 am #

I saw this excellent documentary yesterday with my teenager, who asked to see it. We saw it for a second time today, noting details and factoids that we missed in the first viewing. I just want to say that is the best documentary that I have seen in my five decades of life. It really helped me connect the dots in the many perplexing aspects of Obama’s presidency. For years, I have pondered a 2007 image of Obama at an event in Iowa, standing with his hands clapsed at his waist while the National anthem plays, and Hillary Clinton, New Mexico Gov Bill Richardon and another person stand with their hands over their hearts, and wondered why Obama refused to do do. I wondered why he has driven our National debt higher and higher, aligned himself against Israel, lacked empathy for the civil rights movement, and just generally seems to find the American public to be complete idiots whom he has to patiently talk down to like we are mentally challenged children. Now I know. It all makes sense. He has quickly, quietly taken control of a nation that he does not respect, cherish or love. Rather, he is hellbent on destroying colonialism and is completely lacking in any affection for America. I am deeply appreciative to Dinesh D’Souza for the great love he shows for America in presenting this public service documentary.

    • Passionate Americans August 25, 2012 at 4:10 pm #

So well said! You’ve articulated my collective perspective and obviated my need to further elaborate!

Huge KUDOS & THANKS to Dinesh for making this documentary and to all the investors who are helping promote it!

    • Mary Bunting September 1, 2012 at 7:32 pm #

I agree with every word you wrote J Johnson. I recommend a book called Spreading The Wealth. by Stanley Kurtz. I bought it on Amazon.ca. I am an American living in Toronto, Canada. The author was on Larry Kudlow show on CNBC recently.

I only hope that the other people in the United States have such an open mind….
Obama is out to destroy the United States of America, and if he is re-elected HE WILL. He Hates us, He loathes us, He wants to kill us, and don’t think that I am
FOS….cause I am not….. He is NOT ONE OF US. HE BOWS DOWN TO THE COUNTRIES, WHO HATE US. He must be defeated in November…..if not we are in deep do-do.

  15. Sherry August 9, 2012 at 4:59 pm #

When will 2016 be in theaters in Fargo ND? I am in the process of reading Dinesh’s book about Barack Hussein Obama. His anti colonialism will destroy our country baby steps at a time! We won’t know the damage until he is out of office if he gets re-elected for another term. Please let us know where the documentary will be shown anywhere in ND.

The documentary 2016 produced by Dinesh D’Souza is an example of an honest, non political rendition of the plain and verifiable facts and in no way is intended to deceive, smear or in anyway harm anyone.
It portrays the truth exactly as it took place, where it took place and the way in which it took place. I congratualte the producer and all those who worked on this film for a job very well done.

  19. ELizabeth August 11, 2012 at 7:14 pm #

Will there be a DVD that I can buy? I live in Ulster County, NY and don’t think they’ll be showing this here. The town I live in voted for Obama 4 to 1. Thanks!

    • Susan Francis August 27, 2012 at 9:12 pm #

Yes – please = will there be a DVD we can purchase to hand out to people – BEFORE the election??????? I will purchase a handful – providing they are not too pricey! Please consider this!!!!!!!!!

  20. Amy August 12, 2012 at 10:41 am #

I saw this film last night. Posted it on FB too (the website link.) VERY interesting, I wish more people would get curious and go see it. I’ll definitely get the DVD when it comes out–hopefully before the election. But by the time the DVD comes out, it may be irrelevant. At least, I’m HOPING it is!!!

  21. Liz August 14, 2012 at 10:21 am #

I live in Huntsville, AL, and I did not see my city on the list for the film. Will it be coming to Huntsville, AL.

  22. Jude August 15, 2012 at 9:14 pm #

Dinesh, this film needs to be brought to Pennsylvania. People in this state do not realize that Pres. Obama is far far, far away from the ideology of the traditional Democrat. This will be a key state in the 2012. Your message needs to be made very clear here. I feel certain that once the average American sees the truth, then he /she will vote Obama out of office.

  23. Kc August 16, 2012 at 12:30 am #

Going to see it Friday because it has, thankfully, come to my area in Florida…well 45 miles away from me, but that is near enough. I bought my tickets online in case it sells out. So glad to see the ads for 2016 on the TV now.

  24. Pua August 18, 2012 at 2:43 am #

I just came home from seeing the film. I’m in Honolulu. The house was PACKED at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Friday! The 1:00 p.m. show was just coming out, when we arrived, and the audience was speaking to each other in hushed tones. It was as if they had just been told they had third stage cancer and would not live to see another Christmas! Two hours later, we all understood!

Even those of us who have been reading and listening to everything we can get our hands on – even us – we have come to a new understanding of just how very detrimental the last four years of Obama has been – and how frightening the very thought of four more years is.

IF everyone in America saw this unbelievably well documented film, Bugs Bunny could win the White House, if he chose to run. Fortunately, there is a very strong, dedicated, honest and brilliant team running against Obama. R&R are capable of turning the tide of Obama’s planned destruction of America!

God help us and save us from this pitiful man, who would destroy America!

    Aloha no, Pua

  25. Dawn August 18, 2012 at 4:09 pm #

Thank you for helping me connect the dots in regards to Obama’s policies. You are correct, if you frame his policies in traditional democratic and republican context, there are head scratching moments. But if you view his decisions and policies from an anti colonialist view, his war on success and capitalism makes sense. I truly feel for his brother George and wonder why he has been relegated to a virtually non existent role in Obama’s life. I urge everyone in Florida to see this movie, will be in theaters on August 27th. The facts on the economy are indisputable and the direction it is heading is a wake up call. It doesn’t matter what party you support, if you care about the future of this country educate yourself about anti colonialism.

  26. Eric Damery August 18, 2012 at 10:51 pm #

Just saw the movie tonight in Tampa. Took my girlfriend (who voted for Barry in 08) along with my 16 year old daughter and my girlfriends 17 year old son. The best part of the movie was the audience. They all sat still and watched quietly until the end, when they broke out in applause. The kids have not experienced that in a theater full of people before. And the first thing my girlfriend said when we left was that it is ashame this is just in the movies and not all over TV. Thanks for a wonderful Saturday night out with the family.

    • Georgeann August 23, 2012 at 11:18 pm #

I also saw this movie tonight in Oldsmar, FL. I attended with my Husband, Son (34), his wife, my brother-in-law and his friend who are visiting from NYC. You could hear a pin drop in the audience. The look on people’s faces was unbelievable. When it ended, everyone stood up and applauded also. The talk as we were leaving was also that this should not just be in the movies but every channel should run this movie more than once. This is a very important decision that we are making and most of this information needs to get out to the public. This election could change America completely by 2016. The people not paying attention and just go out and vote will wonder what happened later on and then it will be too late for all of us.
Mr. D’Souza, thank you for a wonderful and informing film and for your love of America.

I would like to see how Michelle Obama was raised and with what beliefs were instilled in her soul. “birds of a feather flock together”

  28. Carl August 22, 2012 at 7:55 am #

Saw the movie last night in Portland, Or. Every American should see this movie before voting, regardless of which political party you belong to. I feel it is the most significant film of my lifetime. See it, then you decide !

  29. Judith August 24, 2012 at 5:57 pm #

Dinesh, I read your book, Obama’s America. I just saw the film 2016 in a Pennsylvania theater. People clapped at the end. We all talked afterward. We were of different faiths and professions. We all agreed that you are a brave and brilliant man. Thank you so much for your effort, as well as all those who helped produce the movie. I wish I could shake your hand, or better yet, hug you.
You and your producer are my American heroes.

  30. Sheila August 24, 2012 at 10:53 pm #

Mr D’Souza: What an amazing documentary about who Obama really is. Thank you so much for producing such an awesome film about the liar we have in the White House. Our Heavenly Father will bless you and your family for doing this great thing for America. I told all my friends and family to be sure and see it. I was speechless when I left the theater in Tulsa, OK as were others. Towards the end, I got sick to my stomach, and wondering how this man could have gotten away with becoming president of this great nation we call America. I hope your film will be in stores for purchase and on satellite pay-per-view. Again, THANK YOU for all your hard work in bringing this to the American people. God bless you always!

  31. DL August 25, 2012 at 3:52 pm #

so…this movies purpose is to draw assumptions about our presidents possible results if re-elected, based on his father’s “supposed” dreams that are only backed by “word of mouth” evidence collected from people we assumed KNEW Barack Sr dreams of an anti-colonial america??? ok….yeah, that totally makes sense.

Bgk, I don’t know if this is true because I just bought “Dreams From My Father…and “Obama’s America.”

My husband and I just saw the movie this afternoon. I loved how the research was done, the facts stated and backed up. If only all of America knew who Obama’s mentors were and how overwhelmingly he has been influenced. Thank you so much for all of your dedication to this project. I pray God’s blessings on you and our country.

  33. Phil August 27, 2012 at 7:11 pm #

There has been so much in the media over the last decade about the need to connect the dots. I saw the movie yesterday in Lansing, MI. Mr. D’Sousa has certainly connected the dots on Mr. Obama’s actions over the last four years.

  34. Tamara Wink August 29, 2012 at 5:45 pm #

I missed the movie over weekend and went lunchtime Monday and am glad I did. Houston lunch audience was avg age 55 and the movie was Apolitical, extremely well put together, well researched, factual, informative and a MUST SEE FOR ALL! Enormous amounts of money have been spent to hide personal facts and this documentary looks at published material and verifies while validating and amazing the facts of “chip on one’s shoulder” being carried to make Westerners pay for crimes of past of others. I am so pleased to learn of the others who are not drinking kool-aide! Excellent Movie.

  35. lee August 29, 2012 at 9:09 pm #

I look at each of your reviews and I tell you. We live in a very divided country. Where were all of you when President Bush and his republican group was destroying the country. There are still republicans that have no interest in the middle class and dimishing the hard working people of America and you people have the audacity to say lies about the current President.

    • ATyger August 30, 2012 at 11:48 am #

Lee, have you actually SEEN the movie yourself? It’s only about 90 minutes.

    • susan August 30, 2012 at 12:53 pm #

The facts are facts – not made up – that is what I liked best about this documentary. Republicans are FAR from perfect – and I am not wild about Romney – but Obama really dislikes this country – and would love to see its demise. I sometimes get the feeling the Obamas are laughing at us -

    • susan August 30, 2012 at 12:59 pm #

Please – if at all possible – can this film be shown more often – or at least a DVD of it available so we can pass it on to others? This is so important – I feel we are at such a significant point in our country’s history. America is not perfect – but it is the best country in the world – and we need to keep it this way!!!!! If more people saw this factual documentary – we may have a chance.

    • susan August 30, 2012 at 1:02 pm #

Lee – please -do yourself a favor – see the movie. You must see it before you post anything more………………..

  36. Ok sure August 30, 2012 at 1:25 pm #

Remember Fahrenheit 9/11? Top grossing documentary of all time and W still got re-elected. Only conservatives who already don’t like Obama will watch this surely “unbiased” documentary in an election year.

  37. Norma Valdez September 1, 2012 at 1:41 pm #

My husband and I viewed the documentary last night in Ventura, California. It was advertised anywhere, in fact, I had to search to find theaters in my area. It is also in Camarillo and Thousand Oaks. This documentary confirmed what we already thought, Obama is trying to reduce our Exceptional Nation to a third world country. We are senior citizens and when it appeared likely that Obama would be elected, we lost one third of our retirement. He wants to destroy big businesses that provide stock dividends that support seniors in their retirement, and take over the businesses that have supported him. All I can say is pray that he does not succeed in this next election. I am really scared for our nation.

  38. Norma Valdez September 1, 2012 at 1:43 pm #

I meant to say previously that the documentary was
    NOT advertised anywhere.

  39. Charlene Foerster September 1, 2012 at 7:17 pm #

Thank you for doing the research…I have been so perplexed by some of Obama’s decisions over the last three years. This all makes sense now…and it scares me to death. Thank you for doing a film that is informative (not hateful, like Mr. Moore’s) and just presenting the information so that all people (democrat, republican, black, white, etc.) can make their own decision. My heart is heavy.

    • Mary Bunting September 2, 2012 at 11:08 pm #

Ceej, I agree with everything you said. I am an American citizen living in Toronto, Canada so I hope to see this very informative film someday. Mary

We just saw the 2016 movie in Wichita, KS. Many thinaks to Mr. D’Sousa for making this documentary possible. We hope it will reach the many who need to hear this message. It started in 1 theatre in Wichita, with 3 time periods. THey had to open it up to their biggest auditorium, add more times, extend it to the west theatre, and now it is at several theatres in town. That’s exciting to see.
